Introduction to the Korea Kumdo Association (KKA) The Korea Kumdo Association (KKA) is dedicated to the nationwide promotion of Kumdo, aiming to improve public health and foster a sound, vibrant national spirit. As the sole representative body for Kumdo in the Republic of Korea, the KKA holds exclusive negotiating rights with international sports organizations, including the International Kendo Federation (FIK). Key Missions and Activities The Korea Kumdo Association carries out various projects as stipulated in its Articles of Association, including “the development and support of professional and grassroots athletes, the hosting and organizing of various Kumdo competitions, research and advancement of Kumdo techniques, study and dissemination of traditional swordsmanship, training and support for instructors, and the promotion of Kumdo.” Global Leadership and Presence As a Vice-President and Board Member nation of the International Kendo Federation (FIK), the KKA fulfills its responsibilities with integrity on the global stage. Our organizational structure consists of: ① 17 Provincial and Municipal Associations within Korea. ② 5 Specialized Federations (Elementary, Middle/High School, University, Corporate/Professional, and General Public). ③ 10 Overseas Branches supporting the global Kumdo community. Achievements in the World Kendo Championships (WKC) The KKA has significantly contributed to the global development of the sport by successfully hosting the World Kendo Championships in Seoul (1987) and Incheon (2017). Our competitive record reflects our excellence: 1) Men’s Team Championship: Winner (13th WKC, 2006). 2) Team Runner-up: 18 times (combined Men’s and Women’s teams). 3 )Men’s Individual Runner-up: 4 times. 4) Women’s Individual Runner-up: 1 time. Future Vision The Korea Kumdo Association actively participates in projects led by the Asian-Oceanian Kendo Federation (AOKF) and the FIK. We are currently concentrating all our efforts on the inclusion of Kumdo as an official sport in the Asian Games. Moving forward, we remain committed to ensuring that the values and spirit of Kumdo continue to flourish and gain recognition worldwide.
